Engineering Unemployment

Embedded guru Jack Ganssle has recently blogged about the current state of Electronics Engineering in the US, and it is not a pretty picture.  It looks like EE’s survived the early recession but are now in a bit of trouble–a bit of a delayed reaction.  Read his thoughts here.

On another note, I have heard about the “real” unemployment rate in a few other places, the people whose UI benefits have run out and are “not actively looking(?)”.  I’m not sure of the proper term, but do believe this may be a more accurate measure of unemployment.  According to Jack there is a place to look at those numbers.  I’ll check them out myself soon.

Football and Gregg Easterbrook are back!

Well, I’ve suffered through my longest hiatus of blogging since I started this thing, and was thinking that I’m suffering from some sort of “summer block”.  Been a busy summer for both work and family visiting.  But as I was sitting at my PC reading ESPN instead of doing work I noted that my favourite columnist was back for the football season.  Gregg Easterbrook’s Tuesday Morning Quarterback is back, and he’s been saving up mucho soci0-political commentary for this one!  Check it out here.  More from me soon.
