Just couldn’t pass this one up…

Well nobody can say that Constance Bay is boring.

The Next Silicon Valley

BTW, I was alerted to the previous post by following this website–The Next Silicon Valley–on twitter.  Former EE Times editor Richard Wallace has launched what looks like a very interesting website, tracking innovation and venture capital funding in different geographies.

Interesting article about Ottawa and tech.

Unfortunately I do not think that Ottawa has been the tech hub of Canada for a while (probably since the 2000, 2001 meltdown).  The sheer size and diversity of Toronto has meant that many high tech companies are there, but since they are a smaller proportion of the entire job count it is not seen as a tech sector.  With the rise of RIM and the subsequent investment into the community by the founders, Waterloo has risen in the high-tech ranks.  I personally know of former colleagues who have moved from Ottawa to the US to find jobs, and some who left Ottawa to go to Toronto.  There is still a good group of technology experts here, hopefully some innovation can still occur here.  See the full article here.
